For the Record is an evening of work presented by choreographer, Laurel Snyder exploring the heights, depths and intricacies of human experience.nnAbout the PerformancenTaking its inspiration from the various mating rituals of fish and other underwater creatures, Hooked takes on the primitive notion that humans have their own mating ritual: dating. This flirtatious and light-hearted piece suggests that for humans, it’s ALWAYS mating season. Hooked premiered in October of 2007 at a Tisch School of the Arts student showing. Nearly Ethereal is an exploration in weightlessness, extreme weight and the necessary negotiation between the two. The dancers’ undulation and organic quality creates an other-worldly atmosphere; dark, eerie and strangely hopeful. Nearly Ethereal premiered as a part of Mulberry Street Theater’s Newsteps Series in the Fall of 2007. Laurel Snyder will also be presenting the premiere of a new solo entitled Impediment in which she embodies the confusion, frustration and self-loathing that comes with the struggle to remember or to simply speak. For the Record: will also include a structured improvisational performance enhanced by similarly improvised live music.nnAbout the ArtistnLaurel Snyder is a second year BFA candidate in the dance program at the Tisch School of the Arts. Her choreography has been presented at informal showings at American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival and the Tisch School. She has been a featured choreographer at the Mulberry Street Theater’s Newsteps Series and her work has also been presented in various venues in Northern Virginia. As a performer and/or collaborator, Laurel has worked with Anomosmotion and Heather McArdle’s Blueprint Violation. Laurel is currently collaborating with Liz Beres on a piece scheduled to premiere in late April.nn$8 General Admission, $5 with a valid Student IDn |

Animal Style // 8bit bEtty // Nullsleepnw. live visuals by No-Carriern+++ CHIPTUNE OPEN MICnnOn November 2, 2008, doctors in delivery rooms across the city will struggle to rationalize the sudden, "Village-of-The-Damned" style mass births sweeping the 5 boroughs like Californian wildfire. But no worries! Just ask someone who was at the PULSEWAVE show nine months earlier and they'll tell you how it all went down.nnThis February, take your loved one by the hand and head down to THE TANK for a special Valentine's Day themed installment of the only monthly series devoted to the use of low bit video game technology in order to create sights and sounds that will get your blood pumping as hard as your...fist.nnThe incredible lineup begins with the long overdue return of Philadelphia's Joey Mariano as ANIMAL STYLE. The "Sounds Like" section of his myspace says, "If a pale and pasty jazz guitar player started sequencing jazz fusion melodies over chiptune tracks --OR-- robot monkies with NES controllers stapled to their forheads screaming in ASCII code." You be the judge. There's also a picture of EIGHT effects pedals hooked up to a Game Boy. Seriously, why would you miss this?nnComing up next is the equally long overdue Pulsewave debut of the winsome pop arrangements of Brooklyn's own 8BIT BETTY. This post on a random message board says it all:n=============n8 bit betty’s cover of the "Reading Rainbow" theme is my 9 month old son’s favorite song. Whenever he’s cranky I play that song for him and he starts smiling every time. Go Betty!nhibiscusroto-san - 12.29.05 1:25 pmn=============nWell put, hibiscusroto-san...well put.nnAnd, if for some insane reason your cold, robotic heart still feels nothing by now, your last hope rests within the A and B buttons of one man. One part supernova and two parts fire-breathing-dragon-clutching-a-half-naked-woman-in-its-claws, NULLSLEEP delivers an impassioned performance that continues to make him a legend in this time and whatever year in the future he came from.nnwith NO-CARRIER's colorful, fast paced Nintendo Entertainment System based visuals setting the stage for this epic love-in, this show is NOT TO BE MISSED.nnAnd of course you should show up even earlier for another glorious round of "PULSEWAVE OPEN MIC". Sign up at the door on a first come, first serve basis, and get yourself a taste of the awesome power of live electronic performance. You aren't limited to any one genre, but you will have a max of three mins, so keep your rock short, sweet and to the point. And who knows, you might get asked to play a Pulsewave show in the future!nnDiscuss this on 8BITCOLLECTIVEnn.;= |
