The Tank presents a program of new music and words featuring Brooklyn artists Loop 2.4.3, who "create transportive percussion odysseys" (The Boston Phoenix - Editor's Picks), Tom Burnett and Jon Catler. Loop 2.4.3's programming possesses an inherent dramatic narrative utilizing subtle melodic textures and primal drumming passages that will have you alternately in a state of meditative cyber-bliss and then jumping out of your seat in an adrenaline surge. Burnett joins the duo in a worldnnpremiere collaborative work, and will perform his treatment of Phillip Glass' film classic, Mad Rush (piano pyrotechnics provided by Istvan B'Racz). Opening up the evening will be microtonal guitarist and inventor, Jon Catler. Catler, known for his work with La Monte Young, will perform a 20-minute set of his own compositions fornnelectric guitar.nnAbout the ArtistsnnLoop 2.4.3 is percussionists/composers Thomas Kozumplik and Lorne Watson. Their debut recording, "Batterie" (Music Starts From Silence), features 6 extended tracks recorded in one hour at Jack Straw Productions in Seattle. "There are action adventures and reveries on Batterie, and it all sounds like part of a well-thought-out tradition. Only the tradition has never existed until now." Fresh Air – NPR While Loop 2.4.3 is their main project, Watson and Kozumplik are also active figures in a cross world of musical genres. They have performed with Clogs, The Books, Evan Ziporyn, Sufjan Stevens, Shara Worden, Belle Orchestre, Newband, and their late mentor Robert Hohner. They have performed at Tonic, The Blue Note, Symphony Space (NYC), The Sydney Festival, The London Jazz Festival, Cornell University, Michigan State University, Music Works Northwest, and the Harry Partch Institute at Montclair State University. www.loop243.comnnTom Burnett is a NYC based musician and theatre artist. His original work has been frequently performed at NY venues including the Kitchen, Webster Hall, Joe's Pub, the Knitting Factory, Fez, and P.S. 122. He was a member of the performance orchestra, Coocoohandler, and is co-creator and keyboardist for the popular downtown show, Uncle Jimmy's Dirty Basement.nnNoted for his work with legendary composer La Monte Young, Jon Catler can be heard as featured soloist on the Gramavision double-CD La Monte Young and the Forever Bad Blues Band. The CD has been widely reviewed (four stars in Rolling Stone) and the band has toured Europe and played Alice Tully Hall, the Kitchen, and The Knitting Factory. He has appeared as composer and performer on the Futurismo/Futurismi Festival, Manca Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Quebec Festival d'Ete, the Angelica Festival, and the American Festival of Microtonal Music (of which he is co-founder).nCatler performed in the world premiere version of Ives' "UniversenSymphony" at Lincoln Center, a climax of AFMM's 20-year history.
