Senior Center Grassroots Readiness and Response
Grassroots Readiness and Response for Senior Center Residents
As part of our ongoing efforts to prepare communities for all types of disasters and actively engage in disaster risk reduction, we are bringing this training to residents of senior facilities in the borough of Staten Island. With the support of the offices of several local elected officials, including Senator Andrew J. Lanza, Councilman James S. Oddo, and Senator Diane J. Savino, we are pleased to present the opportunity to take part in the Grassroots Readiness and Response for Seniors training series. We will be presenting our training and sign up opportunities from 9:00am-12:00pm at the Staten Island Community Board #2, located in the Lou Caravone Community Service Building at 460 Brielle Avenue in Staten Island, NY. As part of the first day of the event, we are delighted to have Senator Savino in attendance to make an address to participants.
This training will be uniquely tailored to the needs of Staten Island residents, including preparation for potential disasters and emergencies including hurricanes, snow storms, tornados, man-made disasters, and other events that may have severe impacts on the facilities and communities where our older citizens reside. Senior citizens are one of the most vulnerable demographics during emergencies and we must be vigilant to ensure their comfort, safety, and independence.
