Disasters and emergencies have become a part of every American's life. In 1960 the United States government recorded a total of fifty major disasters, but in 2000 the number recorded grew to over five hundred. How we as citizens prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies affects how society emerges as resilient responders rather than victims, and how we approach the economic redevelopment of our homes, buildings, neighborhoods, and in some cases our country. In addition to saving lives, mitigating damage and fostering resilient long term recovery depends on the education and integration of community members into disaster response initiatives.
World Cares Center's mission is to foster safe and effective disaster response and resilient recovery within communities. To achieve its mission, WCC trains both the community members who come out of their homes to help during emergencies and disasters, and the emergency managers that are tasked with managing disaster response. Through its culturally sensitive training program, WCC connects with local leaders to access communities, particularly those that have barriers to services.
Thank you for considering a donation to World Cares Center! Your contribution is fully tax-deductible and will help us deliver valuable services such as our disaster volunteering and volunteer management trainings, as well as our long-term recovery programs for disaster-affected communities. Together, we can empower communities to take part in their own disaster response and recovery.
