The September Space Archive project
The mission of the September Space Archive Project is two-fold. First, the project intends to create a narrative that relays the life of September Space and its programs. September Space Community Resiliency Centers were opened following the tragic events of 9/11 to aggregate the services of caregivers and community leaders to continue providing long-term recovery programs for disaster stricken communities – long after the end of the life-cycle of support from relief agencies that focus on meeting people’s immediate needs. The September Space Archival Project will serve as a historical preservation of September Space and its programs, from its inception to the closing of its doors, through the cataloging of photographs, news articles, digital media, program information, and several other forms of documentation.
The second aspect of the project involves the creation of an additional and separate document, which will serve as a manual that provides insight for other organizations on how to avoid the negative impacts encountered while simultaneously sharing the positive outcomes experienced. Through this document, organizations will be better prepared to anticipate and deal with obstacles associated with running a nonprofit organization similar to September Space.
Through the assessment and cataloging of the history of September Space, the project hopes to bring these narratives to life in a manner that will not only tell a story, but also provide insight and information for those working in similar fields.
