Leading and Managing

Through the Leading and Managing program, World Cares Center equips emergency managers and community leaders with the knowledge and resources needed to safely and efficiently utilize volunteers that spontaneously respond to disasters in affected communities.

Comprehensive trainings have been received by authorities in 27 states and four countries.

In response to all types of disasters on local, state, national, and international levels, community members have converged as spontaneous volunteers ready and willing to give their time, energy, and skills. To effectively and efficiently make the most of this goodwill, emergency managers, professional responders, and community leaders must understand the principles of and develop plans for spontaneous volunteer management.

In disaster management, we learn that no two disasters are alike. With the idea that each community response effort is unique, World Cares Center’s Leading and Managing trainings are all developed for individual organizations and groups. While overarching principles are consistent throughout the curriculum, each training is specifically adapted to meet the emergency management needs of the organization and constituency it serves.
