In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Irene, World Cares Center (WCC) worked with NJ211, the NJ Governor’s Office for Volunteerism, and our nonprofit partners to ensure that New Jersey residents hit hardest by the storm and flooding received the help they needed.

• 1,122 requests for clean up
• 595 Residents helped thus far by volunteer groups coordinated through WCC
• 12 trainings and briefings on Leading & Managing muck-out techniques, leading directly to 427 homeowners being assisted

• WCC acted as a liaison between volunteer group providing free flood cleanup and NJ residents hit the hardest by Hurricane Irene.
• WCC helped to prepare and match spontaneous volunteers with experienced volunteer groups providing free flood cleanup services.
• WCC coordinated assistance on a priority basis in order for the most disadvantaged citizens to receive help in reclaiming their lives.
• WCC received 1122 requests for cleanup in New Jersey, treating each request with compassion and consideration for the hardships that have been endured.
• WCC partnered with 15 faith-based, local, and national volunteer groups (Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Mormon Helping Hands, NECHAMA, Tzu-Chi, Faith Lutheran, Christian Aid Ministries, Somerset Baptist Church, ICNA Relief, Notre-Dame Chapel, CRWRC, United Methodist Church of Wayne, Liberty Corner, Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, Chinmaya, Samaritan’s Purse), non-profit organizations (Burlington CERT, AmeriCorps Volunteers), and corporate volunteers (KPMG).

WCC continues to provide programs and training that reflect the spirit of collaboration and community empowerment. World Cares Center carries on the coordination between local groups, volunteers, and the national groups that so generously come into New Jersey to help our residents reclaim their lives and homes.

We are members of the Long-Term Recovery Committees in five NJ Counties: Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Morris, and Somerset and assist communities across the state. World Cares Center is attending weekly meetings and strategizing the next step.
