Graphic Design Intern:
Scope of Work: World Cares Center is looking for an individual with graphic design skills to help serve its visual communications needs. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your graphic design and communications abilities while gaining unique and practical knowledge of marketing a nonprofit. The Graphic Design Intern will play an essential supporting role in World Cares Center’s marketing department and report to the Marketing and Outreach Manager.
Time commitment is flexible, although a consistent schedule is preferred. The position would require approximately 5-10 hours/week, and at least a 2 month commitment.
Responsibilities include:
• Design, lay out and produce printed materials such as newsletters, greeting cards, postcards, posters, signs, letterhead and more (depending on skill)
• Work with existing templates and develop new templates using Adobe CS2 software and Microsoft Publisher
• Develop electronic files for publication and/or online distribution
• Work with existing materials to develop a consistent visual brand and apply the organization’s visual brand consistently across all materials
• Resize/retouch digital photography and logo
• Perform special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Good communication skills, with a strong work ethic and follow-through
• Interest in or willingness to learn about the organization’s mission and programs
• Creativity and keen eye for detail and consistency
• Good organizational skills
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, or other relevant graphic design software that you can supply for your work
• For design and lay out of printed materials, a portfolio or any examples of previous projects is very helpful
• Background in communications is a plus
• Interest in nonprofit work and disaster relief is a plus

Marketing Intern:
Scope of Work: Utilize your marketing, advertising and research skills to help us spread the word about our programs and reach new participants. Work with programmatic staff to target and effectively promote and explain our ongoing programs and services to disaster-affected individuals, families and groups in need of support. You will also help us promote one-time events and workshops for our two signature programs: September Space Community Centers and Disaster Preparation & Trauma Mitigation (DPTM).
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Publisher
• Marketing/PR knowledge/expertise preferred (being a self-starter, enthusiastic, and a fast learner can compensate for the lack of experience)
Flexible hours (five to ten hours a week) with an opportunity to gain real marketing and PR experience. We are able to work with universities to provide course credit for this internship.

Special Events Intern:
Scope of Work: Held since 2002 the Iron Skillet Cook Off is World Cares Center premier fundraiser featuring the city 's premier restaurants along with FDNY’s hottest chefs to see who is the hottest chef in New York. This year’s event will be on November 5, 2007 at Strata restaurant.
The position would require approximately 15-20 hours/week, with a consistent schedule.
Responsiblities Include:
• Identifying and researching potential sponsors
• Researching and developing marketing opportunities for sponsors
• Coordination and execution of promotional mailings
• Overseeing production timeline for graphic designer, printer and vendors
Required Qualifacations and Skills:
• Strong work ethic and excellent follow through Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point (knowledge of Microsoft publisher and Adobe InDesign preferred but not necessary)
• Excellent writing skills
• Creative and keen eye for detail and consistency
• Good organizational skills
• Background/interest in special events

Program and Administrative Support Volunteers:
Scope of Work: We are looking for compassionate and personable volunteers to help with programs at September Space community centers.
Program Volunteer Responsibilities Include:
• Learn about implementing programs that support disaster survivors, recovery workers and disaster volunteers.
• You will help with program research, program set-up, greet participants and practitioners, and track participant registration and sign-in sheets
We need a volunteer committed to supporting program staff Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5 pm to 9 pm.
Program Administrative Support:
• Assist with program outreach and research.
• Answer phones, greet visitors, and assist with data entry and general clerical support.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Ability to complete tasks in timely manner
• General office skills
• Telephone communication skills
• Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the internet
• Compassion
We need a volunteer(s) committed to working Mondays through Fridays with flexible hours between 10 am and 5 pm.
