Disaster Preparation and Trauma Mitigation Programs and Training Officer
Summary:
World Cares Center, a 501 (c) 3 located in New York City, seeks a part-time Programs and Training Officer for its Disaster Preparation and Trauma Mitigation Program. World Cares Center’s mission is to foster safe and effective disaster response and resiliency within communities. The Programs and Training Officer will assist the Programs Manager in facilitating all training and education programs in English and Spanish. The position will also entail outreach and communication initiatives targeting Spanish speaking communities in the five boroughs.
World Cares Center is a small non profit organization with a national reach. We are seeking a professional with a passion for community preparedness and the ability to self start and work as a team is a must.
Reports to the Executive Director
Responsibilities:
Facilitation and Training
* Facilitate workshops, trainings, and educational presentations in English and Spanish
* Make presentations and represent WCC at conferences, trainings, community meetings
* Translate all programs and outreach materials; workbooks and newsletters
Marketing and Outreach
* Assist executive director with the development and implementation of a targeted outreach strategy in communities with barriers to service
* Seek opportunities for WCC to increase public visibility within target areas
* Recruit, train and retain interns and volunteers with a focus on Spanish speaking volunteers and develop opportunities for their increased involvement in our programs
* Attendance at monthly outside committee meetings and conferences as requested by senior staff such as:
* VOAD Leadership
* VOAD Mental Health
* UN Mental Health
* Citizen Corps
Budgeting and Reporting
* Prepare program budgets for approval and ensure proper spending
* Submit timely and accurate budget reports and after action reports
* Keep accurate timeline showing accomplishments and upcoming deadlines for project objectives
Research and Development
* Research, development and implementation of regular programming and special events such as:
* Forums
* Module Trainings
* Workshops
* Conferences
* Deployments
* Train the Trainers
* Oversee and perform program evaluation
* Assist with preparation of grant proposals to secure program funding
* Prepare reports to funders
* When a disaster strikes the DPTM Training Manager shares the responsibility with the DPTM Programs Manager for all staff on information pertaining to the disaster and if the need arises will take sole responsibility
* Other duties as assigned by senior staff
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, or equivalent experience
* Experience with program conceptualization, design and development
* Leadership skills, listening skills, excellent oral communications skills
* Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
* Fluency in Spanish
* Experience with disaster preparation and response initiatives a plus
