Free Wellness Programs Open To World Trade Center Movie Viewers
Statement on the Movie and 5th Anniversary from September Space – World Cares Center
NEW YORK (August 4, 2006) — Free wellness sessions will be made available at September Space to any viewers of the movie World Trade Center who feel that the sessions would help them cope with the film or with the upcoming anniversary of the 9/11 attack. The September Space Community Centers, operated by non-profit World Cares Center, are dedicated to healing for all those affected by 9/11.
In addition, a group discussion on the movie for the 9/11 community will be held weekly at September Space Lower Manhattan.
Along with a group of family members, firemen, police officers, EMS workers and survivors, the World Cares Center team saw a preview of the movie on Thursday, August 3.
Lisa Orloff, the founder and Executive Director of World Cares Center, said: “Those who evacuated the buildings or were involved in the recovery and live through its aftermath – indeed all New Yorkers – experience this movie differently than the rest of the country. The sound of a fire truck, the smell of smoke, a missing picture flyer – these memories are now a part of us, we cannot escape them. Especially not now with this movie being released and extensively advertised in concert with the fifth anniversary of the attacks approaching. This was already an incredibly difficult time for all New Yorkers; the difficulty is not held by one group, it is shared by all who have experienced the attacks in a different way. All of us are touched and changed forever. After five years, these people remember September 11, 2001 like it was yesterday. The rescue and relief workers who saw the movie with us were very emotional and had mixed feelings about the movie. While many in the group felt that the opening and marketing of this film so close to the fifth anniversary was insensitive, the movie could actually help our community communicate to the government and the service providers and funders that there is a continuing need for support of those affected by the attacks.”
Free sessions at September Space include yoga, meditation, reiki and acupuncture, available at two locations:
• September Space Lower Manhattan, 11 Broadway, 11th Floor.
• September Space Midtown: 520 8th Ave. at 36th St., 11th Floor. RSVP/Inquiries to Laura Horowitz at 646-289-3098 or lhorowitz@worldcares.org.
