World Cares Center September Forum to Commemorate 9/11
-Week of programming to focus on physical and mental health-related issues and building community resiliency-
NEW YORK (August 30, 2006) – World Cares Center, a non-profit organization that fosters safe and effective disaster response and resiliency in communities worldwide, will host a week of conferences and programs to address 9/11-related mental and physical health concerns that continue into the fifth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. September Forum will feature representatives from area hospitals, environmental groups and psychiatric institutions as well as downtown residents and recovery workers. Wellness practitioners in a variety of disciplines will also demonstrate their practice and conduct free sessions.
The events will take place September 7-11, at both September Space Midtown and Lower Manhattan, community centers dedicated to those affected by the 9/11 attacks and operated by World Cares Center. September Space Midtown is located at Eight Avenue at 36th Street, 11th floor; Lower Manhattan is located at 11 Broadway, 11th Floor.
The week’s topics will include:
 Thursday, September 7, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. “World “Trade Center Health: Changes, Challenges, and Choices” about post 9/11 health issues. Keynote address (10:15-11:00 a.m.) by Anita L. Schill, Ph.D.,M.P.H., M.A. Interim Associate Director for Science CDC/ NIOSH.
A special Health Panel (11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) will feature the following representatives: Director Social Work and Advocacy Services, Mt. Sinai 9/11 Treatment Program; Director Bellevue 9/11 Treatment; Director NYC Detoxification Center; Director Serving Those Who Serve; Executive Director NYC Sierra Club; Downtown Resident; Ground Zero Recovery Worker
 Friday, September 8, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30p.m. “Building Resiliency in the Aftermath of Tragedy.” This conference is co-sponsored by Peaceful Tomorrows and will have a panel representing survivors of national and international large-scale tragedies. The survivors will share how one builds resiliency and develops coping mechanisms during and after traumatic events.
 Friday, September 8, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. “Lessons Learned” will provide an opportunity for dialogue among leaders of local and national disaster response agencies.
